MMA Odds and Ends for Friday: End-of-Week Fight Announcement Roundup (CMigrator copy 14)

Antonio dos Santos A few new UFC bouts were booked for upcoming fight cards, and for today’s MMA Odds and Ends I’ll give my thoughts on them. Bec Rawlings vs. Lisa Ellis, UFC Fight Night 65 Due to an injury to Seo Hee Ham, Bec Rawlings will now take on Lisa Ellis at UFC Fight Night 65, which takes place May 10 at Adelaide Entertainment Centre in Adelaide, Australia. I liked Ham against Rawlings, but I do favor the Aussie here against Ellis, who I don’t think belongs in the UFC. As long as Rawlings is able to keep this fight on the feet she should be able to outbox Ellis and win a decision on the judges’ cards. I expect Rawlings to be favored here by at least 2-to-1, and believe she’s the right side. Jose Quinonez vs. Leonardo Morales, UFC Fight Night 68 A bantamweight bout between TUF Latin American alum Jose Quinonez and Leonardo Morales is the latest addition to UFC Fight Night 68, which takes place June 6 at Smoothie King Center in New Orleans, Louisiana. This is kind of a strange fight between the two men who lost in the TUF Latin American finals. Morales is the one making the drop to 135lbs for this one, so he will surely have the size advantage, but I believe Quinonez is actually the better fighter. It’s a somewhat interesting fight, but not one I plan on betting on. Look for a competitive line with a slight lean towards Quinonez here. Antonio dos Santos Jr. vs. Scott Askham, UFC Fight Night 69 A middleweight matchup between Antonio dos Santos Jr. and Scott Askham was added to UFC Fight Night 69, which takes place June 20 at O2 World in Berlin, Germany. Dos Santos Jr. has fought just once in the UFC, losing via injury TKO to Daniel Sarafian. He didn’t look great in that fight, but he took it on short notice and one has to cut him some slack. As for Askham, he didn’t look great either in his debut against Magnus Cedenblad, but Cedenblad is a much better fighter than Sarafian and Askham still has a lot of potential to show, in my opinion. The line should favor Askham quite a bit here, although I wouldn’t peg him at anything over 3-to-1.
