Boxing Preview: Odds for Wembley Stadium Fights This Friday (July 24)

boxing-glovesThis Friday night promoter Frank Warren and his Queensberry Promotions are at Wembley Arena with an 11-fight card headlined by a series of regional title matches. In the Super Middleweight division scheduled for ten rounds undefeated Jamie Cox (18-0) faces Blas Miguel Martinez (21-7-1) for the vacant WBO European title. There is no over/under psoted, but Cox is a big-time (-2300) favorite, with the comeback on Martinez at (+1100). Cox last fought in February of 2015, picking up a KO win over Alsitair Warren (8-8-4), but prior to that he did not box for all of 2012 and 2014 and logged just one fight in 2013. Though he has not been competing consistently, Cox would appear to outclass Martinez, who has the look of a journeyman. Martinez has fought twice since 2013, winning both fights via stoppage. One match was scheduled for six rounds, but his most recent outing saw him stop Xesus Ferreiro (15-3-1) in the 2nd round to capture the Spanish Super Middleweight title. The EBU European Flyweight title is on the line in a twelve round bout between Frenchman Thomas Masson (13-3-1) and undefeated local fighter Kevin Satchell (14-0). Satchell is making the first defense of the title he won back in October of 214 when he defeated Valery Yanchy (23-3-2) via majority decision. The line sees Masson a big underdog paying (+1100), with Satchell returning at (-2300). Satchell has come up the old fashioned, British way, progressing through British and Commonwealth titles on his way to the European title. Satchell is a technical boxer with just 3 KO’s in his career, but he scored a first round TKO win in his last outing back in March after he dropped Walter Rojas (24-5-1) twice. Masson earned this opportunity riding the strength of a five fight winning streak, picking up the French Flyweight title along the way. Other title fights that have not popped up at the sport books yet include Frank Buglioni (16-1-1) taking on Fernando Castadena (23-9) for the vacant WBA Inter-Continental title at Super Middleweight and Ovill Mckenzie (24-12) facing Janne Forsman (19-1) for the vacant WBA Continental Cruiserweight title. Super Bantamweight Lewis Pettit (16-1) awaits his opponent as he vies for the vacant WBO European title and at Super Featherweight, undefeated titleholder Mitchell Smith (12-0) makes his first title defense against Dennis Tubieron (19-4-2) of the Philippines. In the Super Welterweight division, undefeated fighters Gary Corcoran (12-0) and Rick Godding (21-0-1) meet in an elimination bout which will see the winner fight for the British title. As far as name recognition, Warren has booked several big names on the card that could also be noticed at the sport books. Well known Heavyweight Dereck Chisora (20-5) returns for the first time since his November of 2014 loss to Tyson fury., and he faces Beqa Lobjanidze. Also on the card is popular Middleweight Billy Joe Saunders (21-0) who is logging ring time against Yoann Bloyer (17-27-2) before his September 19th date with Andy Lee where he seeks the WBO World title.
