UFC Fight Night 67’s post-fight bonus’ went to… Charles Oliveira and Nik Lentz earned Fight of the Night honors for their very entertaining co-main event battle at last night’s UFC Fight Night 67 in Brazil. Both fighters had their moments, each nearly finishing the fight, but it was the Brazilian who ultimately sealed the deal early in the third frame with guillotine choke for the tapout victory. Their first fight took home the evening’s bonus, and so did the rematch. Other noteworthy fights: – Thiago “Pitbull” Alves and “The Natural Born Killer” Carlos Condit went to war in the main event of the evening last night. The Brazilian got the better of Condit in the first frame, but it was an elbow by Condit in the second round that caught Alves flush on the nose, badly injuring him. Alves showed great heart and survived the round, but the doctor would not allow him to see a third round, even though the Brazilian was saying he was able to continue. It was an entertaining fight, and both fighters likely won more fans over with their excellent performances and show of heart. Charles Oliveira earned Performance of the Night honors for his aforementioned third round guillotine choke submission of Nik Lentz, which marked the first victory via guillotine choke in his professional mixed martial arts career. He now owns 12 career wins by submission, 10 of them being chokes; five different types of chokes. The Brazilian continues to impress, and after collecting a six-figure bonus last night, he looks forth to his next outing, and fight fans can’t wait to see him back inside the Octagon. Rony Jason earned Performance of the Night honors for his first round triangle choke submission victory over former Legacy FC Featherweight Champion Damon “The Leech” Jackson. After being outwrestled in the early going of the stanza, the Brazilian capitalized on a takedown attempt by Jackson, finding himself in top position and immediately setting up a triangle choke from mount. It was an impressive outing by Jason, and an ideal way for him to return to the win column. Other noteworthy performances: – The aforementioned Carlos Condit defeating Thiago Alves via TKO when the Octagon-side doctor called the bout after the second round. It was a great outing and return to the Octagon by Condit, who dropped the first round and came out strong in the second, ultimately scoring a strike that ultimately ended the contest. – Alex Oliveira defeated KJ Noons via rear naked choke submission in the first round of action, picking up his first victory inside the Octagon. He made his promotional debut on short notice against Gilbert Burns and was dominating Burns until the third frame, where the fight hit the mat and he was submitted by the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt. Oliveira made a quick turnaround, also taking the fight against Noons on short notice when his original opponent Yan Cabral withdrew due to injury. The Brazilian made the most of his second Octagon appearance, taking the fight and choking out the veteran Noons. He won many fans over with his Octagon debut, which resulted in a loss, and he won even more fans with his win over Noons last night. “Cowboy” continues to impress, and fight fans looks forward to his next Octagon outing. – Darren Till defeated Wendell Oliveira via second round knockout in his promotional debut. The Brazil-based Englishman who many fight fans had never heard of made waves in the UFC’s welterweight division with last night’s performance on the evening’s preliminary card. Remaining undefeated at 12-0, now Till and fight fans alike hope for a quick return to action. – Misrad Bektic defeated Lucas Martins via TKO in the second round of action. After dominating the Brazilian on the mat in the first frame, he dropped him at the start of the second, and wrapped things up with a ground and pound that forced the referee to halt the action. Another solid outing by Bektic, who extends his Octagon winning streak to 3-0, while keeping his undefeated receord intact at a perfect 10-0.
