Mixed Martial Arts Veteran Recap: May 2015

61f9e7fc98b11beda1f7427d58379565At the beginning of every month on MMAOddsBreaker I feature my recurring “Veteran Watch” article which takes a look at some notable veterans competing on the regional/overseas circuit. In this article I have a recap how these veteran fighters faired in their respective bouts for the month of April.   May 2nd – KOTC– Tribal Spirit OC (Saint Michael, North Dakota) Brock Larson def. Kyle Olsen via TKO (Punches) at 1:41, RD. 1  UFC/WEC veteran Larson has now won eight of his last 10 bouts while  Olson meanwhile has now lost six of his last seven fights.   May 8th– RFA vs. Legacy Super Fight (Robinsonville, Mississippi) Alexandre Pantoja def. Damacio Page via Technical Submission (Triangle Choke) at 5:00, RD. 2 Former WEC/UFC fighter Page had his three fight win streak snapped, while Pantjoa has now won nine straight fights and hasn’t lost a fight since 2010.  With being just 25-years old and having an impressive 16-2 record, the Brazilian will likely get a UFC call up quite soon. Mike Bronzoulis def. Dave Burrow via Unanimous Decision Fight Master finalist Bronzoulis has now won three straight fights and with the loss Burrow’s had his five fight win steak snapped.   May 9th– CFFC 48– Good vs. Burrell (Atlantic City, New Jersey) Lyman Good def. Nah-Shon Burrell via Submission (Rear-Naked Choke) at 3:47, RD. 1  With the victory, former Bellator welterweight champion has remained undefeated since his Bellator release in 2012 going (4-0 -NC). Burrell meanwhile has now lost three of his last four fights.   May 9th– WFC 39 (Baton Rouge, Louisiana) Kyle Bradley def. Kalvin Hackney via TKO at 1:44, RD. 3  UFC veteran Bradley has now won four of his last six fights, while Hackney had his three fight win streak snapped. The 32-year old Bradley was also scheduled to fight Ryan Dickson on the Global Warriors FC 2 event on May 30th, but suffered a broken nose in this fight so he was unable to compete twice in the same month.   May 9th– PRO Fighting – PRO FC 10  (Taipei, Taiwan) Takenori Sato def. Chad Reiner via Submission (Armbar)  Former UFC fighter Sato snapped his two fight losing streak while Reiner has now lost three of his last four fights. Will Chope def. Taivan Narantuya via Submission (Rear-Naked Choke)  UFC veteran Chope has now won five straight and has gone 5-1 since his UFC release in 2014. With the loss, the Mongolian fighter Narantuya suffered his first professional defeat.   May 16th– Superior Challenge 12 (Malmo, Sweden)  David Bielkheden def. Cody McKenzie via Unanimous Decision  UFC veteran Bielkheden has now won five in a row, while McKenzie has lost four straight fights.   May 17th– Shooto Brazil 54 (Rio De Janeiro, Brazil)   Ronny Torres def. Benito Cavalcante via Unanimous Decision  Torres has now gone 15-2 since his UFC release in 2010, while the loss snapped Cavalcante’s three fight win streak. Luiz Cane def. Felipe Silva via Unanimous Decision  Cane earned his second first round knockout victory in a row and subsequently improved his record to 4-1 since his 2012 release from the UFC. With the loss, Silva’s record is now at 2-2.

May 22nd– HKFC – School of Hard Knocks 43 (Calgary, Alberta)

Nick Ring def, Jason Zentgraf via Unanimous Decision Ring earns his first win since July 2012 while the 27-year old American has now lost two of his last three fights.

 

May 23rd – KSW 31 – Materla vs. Drwal (Voivodeship, Poland) Michal Materla def. Tomasz Drwal via TKO (Punches) at 4:56 RD. 3.  Materla has now won five of his last six fights and with the loss, Drawl had his four fight win streak snapped. Mariusz Pudzianowski def. Rolles Gracie via TKO (Punches) at 0:27, RD. 1 Pudzianowski earns the first four fight win streak of his career, while Gracie has now lost three straight bouts.  Karol Bedorf def. Peter Graham via Unanimous Decision Graham has now lost four of his last five fights, while 31-year old Bedorf has won six straight.  Goran Reljic  def. Attila Vegh via Split Decision  Reljic improves his record to gone 6-1 since his UFC release back in 2010, while Vegh has now lost back to back fights for the first time in his career. Aziz Karaoglu def. Jay Silva via TKO (Punches) at 1:34, RD. 1 Karaoglu earns his first win since March of 2013, while Silva has lost four of his last six bouts and has a record now of 9-10-1.  Check out the highlights from the event here, per the KSW Youtube Channel   May 30th – Global Warriors FC 2 (Burlington, Ontario, Canada) Josh Hill def. Josh Rettinghouse by Submission (Rear Naked Choke) at 2:01, RD. 3 Hill earns his second career win by submission while Rettinghouse has lost back to back fights for the first time in his career. May 31st – Pancrase 267 (Tokyo, Japan) Kazuki Tokudome def. J.J Ambrose via Unanimous Decision Four time UFC veteran Tokudome earns back to back wins for the first time since 2012, while the loss snapped Ambrose’s two fight win streak.
