Boxing Preview: Odds Breakdown For First Weekend of December

Joseph_Parker-1200Heading into the last month of 2014, Several Bookmakers has odds for boxing bouts on three different events being held world-wide during the month’s opening weekend. Here’s my breakdown of all headlining bouts globally. On Saturday, December 6th in New Zealand, Heavyweight prospect Joseph Parker (11-0) faces off against Brazilian veteran Ireneu Costa Jr, Parker is favored a (-1005) with the comeback on Costa at (+535). Parker is one of the better Heavyweight prospects worldwide at 22 years old. Costa Jr is (15-1) and expected to provide rounds for Parker. He is coming off a loss to Christian Hammer over 12 rounds, so Parker’s handlers are likely looking to see him avoid a big puncher (13 KOs in 16 fights for Costa) and work rounds. If an over/under pops up, consider the over. At Brooklyn’s Barclay’s Center, Canadian David Lemieux is favored at (-205) in his twelve round Middleweight bout facing Gabriel Rosado, who pays back at (+165). Rosado is one of those tough veterans with a deceiving record at (21-8), and he is (0-3) in his last 4 fights with a loss changed to a No Contest thrown in, but the opponents include world champions Gennady Golovkin and Peter Quillin. Since dropping two fights in a row back in 2011, Lemieux has retreated to Canada where he has posted 7 wins in a row. Though he is a big puncher and can be a crowd pleaser, this is his first fight in 3 years outside of his comfort zone and the fight airs on HBO, so it can be a make or break fight for Lemieux. Right now, the EWE Arena event in Germany is listing odds on IBF Cruiserweight World Champion Yoan Pablo Hernandez title defense against Ola Afolabi. The line is moot here, as Hernandez has suffered an elbow injury as of last week and pulled out of the fight. The card features three other twelve round bouts, so look for lines to pop up for this card. Of particular interest is the main event which has WBA World Light Heavyweight titlist Juergen Braehmer defending his title against Pawel Glazewski. There are also bouts with IBF International and European Union level belts, and British Heavyweight slugger David Price is also on the card in a 10 rounder, so look for lines later this week.
