Mixed Martial Arts Veteran Recap: March 2015

In this new feature on MMAOddsBreaker, I recap how these veteran fighters faired in their respective bouts for the month of March. March 6th – Prize Fighting Championships 8 (Denver, Colorado) Chris Camozzi def. Wes Swofford via TKO (leg kick) at 1:25, RD. 1 Camozzi successfully defended his Prize FC middleweight title and subsequently earned  his second consecutive victory since his UFC release.   March 6th – RFA 24 Smith vs. Romero (Prior Lake, Minnesota) Melvin Blumer def. Jeff Curran via KO (Backfist) at 4:58 RD.1 The 33-year old Blumer won his sixth straight bout (and fifth finish during that stretch). Curran meanwhile has now won just once in his last five fights. At 37-years of age, you have to wonder if this is the end of the road for “Big Frog”   March 6th – Jeremy Horn’s Elite Fight Night 26 (Salt Lake City, Utah) Nick Mamalis def. Craig Ross via Unanimous Decision  Mamalis earns his fourth win in his last six bouts while Ross lost his second straight fight.   March 7th 2015 – Shamrock Promotions – Heavy Artillery (Kansas City, Missouri) Bobby Voelker def. via Justin Guthrie TKO (punches) at 3:09, RD. 3 Voelker wins his second in a row since being cut from the UFC while Guthrie has now lost four of his last five bouts.   March 10th – Conflict MMA 25 – Charlotte (Charlotte, North Carolina) Muhsin Corbbrey def. Chris Cain via Submission (Rear Naked Choke) at 1:21, RD. 1 Corbbrey wins his fourth fight in a row (third by submission) while Cain has now lost his last six fights.   March 13th – Classic Entertainment and Sport 28 (Lincoln, Rhode Island) Rick Hawn def. Derek Loffer via Unanimous Decision  Hawn won his second straight fight since his departure from Bellator and the win also snapped Loffer’s four-fight win streak. Richard Patishnock  vs. Luis Felix (CANCELLED)  Patishnock had to withdraw due to injury and was replaced by Reggie Merriweather. Felix won via TKO at 4:29, RD.1   March 13th- Pacific Xtreme Combat 47  (Guam, Guam) Darren Uyenoyama def. Kentaro Watanabe via Split Decision UFC veteran Uyenoyama is now on a two-fight win streak since his release at the end of 2013. Watanabe has now lost three of his last four fights.   March 13th – Pinnacle Combat 19 (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) Eric Wisely def. Jared Downing via Split Decision  Interestingly enough, the results from this card are very tough to find as both Sherdog and mixedmartials.com haven’t posted the results. After finding the promotion’s Facebook page, I did see that Wisely emerged victorious. The win for “Little Lee” was his fourth in his last five fights while Downing has now lost five in a row.   March 14th – Hex Fight Series 2 (Melbourne, Australia) Nick Patterson def. Ben Wall via Majority Decision Wall lost his third in a row and suffered his first loss since being released from the UFC. Patterson has now won five in a row.   March 15th – Pancrase 265 (Tokyo, Japan) Satoru Kitaoka def. Akira Okada via Unanimous Decision DREAM/Sengoku veteran Kitaoka has now won four straight fights while the loss for Okada snapped a six-fight unbeaten streak.   March 20th XFFC 6 – The Proving Ground (Grand Prairie, Alberta) Bristol Marunde def. Michael Hill  via Unanimous Decision Since his UFC release in 2013, Marunde has now won four in a row, defeating fellow TUF castemate Hill. Speaking of the Canadian Hill, he loses for just the third time in his career and snaps a two-fight win streak.   March 20th – Legacy FC 40 (Duluth, Georgia) Clay Harvison def. Joe Elmore via Unanimous Decision Three-time UFC veteran Harvison has now won four in a row (a career high) while Elmore has now lost two straight fights.   March 20th – World Cagefighting Championships 13 (Lancaster, Pennsylvania) Dustin Pague def. Charlie Gathers via Submission (Rear-Naked Choke) at 1:52, RD. 1 Pague snaps his five-fight losing streak with an impressive first round victory. The loss for Gathers ended his three-fight win streak.   March 21st – Road Fighting Championships 22 (Seoul, South Korea) Riki Fukuda def. Dool Hee Lee  via TKO (Punches) at 3:57, RD. 2 Fukuda remains undefeated since his UFC release in 2013 while Lee suffered his first loss since 2011.   March 21st- Shamrock Promotions – Showdown (St Louis, Missouri) Adam Cella  vs. Kalel Robinson  (CANCELLED) Cella had to bow out due to injury and was replaced by Joaquin Buckley. Late replacement Buckley ended up winning via TKO (Punches) at 4:01, RD. 3 and handed Robinson his second straight loss.   March 21st – SCL 42 – Army vs. Marines (Reading, Pennsylvania) Gilbert Smith vs. Timothy Woods (Cancelled) This entire event was cancelled per Tapology.   March 21st – Warfare MMA 14 (Myrtle Beach, South Carolina) Rafaello Oliveira vs. Jordan Rinaldi (Results N/A)  There are no results available for this fight on Sherdog, UG or on the promotion’s Facebook and webpage. Keep in mind this bout is in South Carolina where they don’t have an established commission.   March 26th – Abu Dhabi Warriors 2 (Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates) Derek Mehmen def. Brett Rogers via Unanimous Decision  Former WSOF title challenger Mehman ended being a late replacement for Alexei Kudin (who pulled out of this fight due to injury) and ended up getting the victory.  Mehman has now won seven of his last eight fights, while Rogers has gone 2-3 in his last five bouts Jesse Ronson def. Gadji Zaipulaev via Submission (D’Arce Choke) at 3:24, RD. 2 Canadian lightweight Ronson earned his second straight win since his UFC release while Zaipulaev lost his second straight fight.   March 27th – Unified MMA 22 (Edmonton, Alberta) Tim Hague def. Tanner Doser via KO (punch) at 0:06, RD. 1 UFC veteran Hague won his fourth straight fight and the 23-year old Doser loses for the first time in his career.   March 27th -Havoc FC 8 (Red Deer, Alberta) Cody McKenzie  vs. Ryan Machan  (CANCELLED)  Due to McKenize’s suspension from his last fight at WSOF 18 (due to accidental headbutt) against Andrew McInnes, the former TUF competitor wasn’t cleared to compete. Because of this the fight was scrapped and has sparked up controversy with the Edmonton Commission. MMA Journalist Mike Russell has more on this story here.   March 28th – Sugar Creek Showdown 25 – Apocalypse (Hinton, Oklahoma) Tony Lopez def. Jeremy Horn via Split Decision Lopez wins his second straight fight, while the loss snapped Horn’s four-fight win streak.   March 28th – Global Proving Ground 19 – Portugal vs. USA (Pennsauken, New Jersey) Will Martinez (10-3-1) vs. Kamrin Naville (7-8-0) (CANCELLED) This bout was pulled but the event still took place per Tapology.  No information was available as to why this was cancelled   March 28th – Square Ring Promotions – Island fights 33 (Pensacola, Florida) Jesse Taylor (27-11-0) vs. Adrian Miles (14-7-0) (CANCELLED) This bout was pulled but the event still took place per Tapology.  No information was available as to why this was cancelled Wes Sims  vs. Jonathan Ivey  (CANCELLED) Sims pulled out of this fight due to injury and replaced by Chaz Morgan. Morgan won the bout via unanimous decision   March 28th – Phoenix Fight Night 25 (Dorset, England) Andre Winner  vs. Xavier Sedras (Contest ruled a Draw)  TUF 9 veteran Winner remains unbeaten in his last five fights while Sedras earns the first draw of his career.
