Thiago Alves will make lightweight debut at UFC 205 versus Jim Miller The UFC announced Saturday that former UFC welterweight title contender Thiago “Pitbull” Alves will remain on the UFC 205 card at Madison Square Garden in New York City on November 12th and take on New Jersey native Jim Miller at 155 pounds. Alves (21-10) was originally slated to fight New York’s Al Iaquinta in his lightweight debut, but his opponent pulled out due to a contract dispute with the UFC. Enter Miller (27-8, 1 No-Contest), who has won two bouts in a row following a Fight of the Night performance in a split-decision victory against Joe Lauzon at UFC on FOX 21 on August 27th in Vancouver. Alves will be entering the Octagon for the first time since May 30th, 2015, when he suffered a second-round TKO at the hands of Carlos Condit due to doctor stoppage after incurring a lot of damage. Alves-Miller is expected to be one of the fights publicly introduced at the UFC 205 press conference on Tuesday at MSG in NYC. In addition, two women’s bouts will take place on the UFC 205 card, including strawweight champion Joanna Jędrzejczyk (12-0) defending her title belt against challenger Karolina Kowalkiewicz (10-0) in a battle of two unbeaten fighters within the division. Former women’s bantamweight champ Miesha “Cupcake” Tate (18-6) will also face Raquel “Rocky” Pennington (8-5) as she tries to rebound from a first-round rear-naked choke submission loss to Amanda Nunes for the title at UFC 200 on July 9th.
