The upcoming UFC on FOX 8 card had three new fights added to it today, both occurring in the lightweight division. The first bout announced sees veteran lightweights Yves Edwards and Spencer Fisher go toe-to-toe in a three-round bout. Edwards most recently fought at UFC 156, where he lost a razor-thin split decision to Isaac Vallie-Flagg, while Fisher hasn’t fought since UFC on FX 4 last June when he lost a unanimous decision to Sam Stout. Both Edwards and Fisher are two of the longest-serving fighters in the UFC lightweight division but both fighters are on losing streaks and the loser of this bout — unless it’s “Fight of the Night,” which is certainly a possibility — is likely to be cut. This is a pretty competitive matchup if it stays standing, but Edwards surely has the advantages in the grappling and wrestling departments. As such, expect Edwards to open as at least a -200 favorite or possibly even higher over Fisher, who is nearing the end of his career. The second fight that was announced is another lightweight bout between Michael Chiesa and Reza Madadi. Madadi is coming off an incredible come-from-behind win over Michael Johnson at UFC on FUEL TV 9, while Chiesa is 2-0 in the UFC and is coming off a submission win over Anton Kuivanen at UFC 157. This is another pretty competitive fight, but since the public is so hyped up about Chiesa, you can expect he opens as a near 2-to-1 favorite, with Madadi being a +150 underdog or possibly even higher if the public plays Chiesa. And finally, UFC Tonight announced a women’s bantamweight bout between Miesha Tate and Liz Carmouche. This is a pretty close fight, with each of the fighters coming off losses to Cat Zingano and Ronda Rousey, respectively, but you can expect Tate to open as a decent-sized favorite, perhaps in the -170 range. UFC on FOX 8 takes place July 27 at KeyArena in Seattle, WA. The card doesn’t have a main event scheduled yet, however matchups of Rory MacDonald vs. Jake Ellenberger, Robbie Lawler vs. Tarec Saffiedine, Mac Danzig vs. Melvin Guillard and Julie Kedzie vs. Germaine De Randamie have already been added to it. The main event, by the way, is rumored to be UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson vs. top contender John Moraga. Caraway vs. Bedford Betting Line Released The last betting line for UFC 159 was released today, as Several Bookmakers opened up the odds for the bantamweight matchup between Bryan Caraway and Johnny Bedford. MMA oddsmaker Nick Kalikas opened Bedford as a -175 favorite (bet $175 to win $100), while Caraway opened as a +135 underdog (bet $100 to win $135). This is a pretty interesting matchup between one of the larger bantamweights in Bedford, and one of the slickest grapplers at 135 pounds in the form of Caraway. It’s an interesting fight on paper but the only problem is that Caraway took the fight on only six days’ notice, so he won’t have as much of a chance to win as he would if he took the fight on a full camp. Still, it should be interesting
