MMA Odds and Ends for Tuesday: Jon Jones receives temporary suspension from USADA for estrogen blockers

450 Jon Jones receives temporary suspension from USADA for estrogen blockers Monday the NSAC confirmed that interim UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones tested positive prior to UFC 200 for hydroxy-clomiphene, “an anti-estrogenic agent” and “letrozole metabolite,” an “aromatase inhibitor,”according to NSAC attorney Caroline Bateman Jones (22-1) failed an out-of-competition drug test June 16 ahead of his UFC 200 matchup with Daniel Cormier (17-1) at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Jones has received a temporary suspension and will have a formal hearing in September or October. He’s retained anti-doping attorney Howard Jacobs, who’s also worked with MMA fighters Sean Sherk, Alexander Shlemenko, and Tim Means. Stay tuned to MMAOddsbreaker for more updates when they become available.   Michael Johnson vs. Dustin Poirier to headline UFC Fight Night 94 in Texas Lightweight Michael Johnson announced via his Instagram account Monday (and later confirmed by UFC officials) that he’s fighting Dustin Poirier in the main event of UFC Fight Night 94.  

Johnson (16-10) heads into this matchup off back-to-back losses to Beneil Dariush and Nate Diaz. Prior to that, he amassed a four-fight win streak including victories over  Joe Lauzon, Gleison Tibau, Melvin Guillard and Edson Barboza. Poirier (20-4) has remained undefeated since moving up to lightweight earning victories over Carlos Diego Ferreira, Yancy Medeiros and most recently Joseph Duffy at UFC 195.   Derek Brunson vs. Uriah Hall to serve as co-headliner, Abel Trujillo vs. Evan Dunham also added  The UFC website also announced a co-main event between middleweights Derek Brunson and Uriah Hall. Brunson (15-3) was slated to fight Gegard Mousasi at UFC 200 but had to pull out due to injury. The Strikeforce veteran comes into this matchup on a four-fight win streak. Hall (12-6) had his two-fight win streak snapped in his last fight, losing a decision to Robert Whitaker at UFC 193. Also announced was a lightweight bout between Evan Dunham (17-6 MMA, 10-6 UFC) and Abel Trujillo (15-6 MMA, 6-2 UFC), Manny Gamburyan (15-9 MMA, 6-7 UFC) taking on Alejandro Perez (17-6 MMA, 3-1 UFC) at bantamweight and Gabriel Benitez (18-5 MMA, 2-1 UFC) facing Sam Sicilia (15-6 MMA, 5-5 UFC) in a featherweight bout.   UFC Fight Night 94 takes place Sept. 17 at State Farm Arena in Hidalgo. Vera (9-3-1) is coming off a unanimous decision loss to Davey Grant at UFC Fight Night 94 which dropped his UFC record to 1-2. Guangyou (5-3-1) is coming off a split decision setback to Marco Antonio Beltran at UFC Fight Night 79 in November. UFC 202 takes place on Aug. 20 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
