The Ultimate Fighter Season 23 Finale was live from Las Vegas, NV this past Friday night (July 8, 2016) and produced a night of solid action. The evening of fun scraps is now in our rear-view, so let’s take a look at which of the competitors who went to battle we may no longer see working inside the Octagon… ON THE CHOPPING BLOCK Fernando Bruno Bruno made his promotional debut against fellow Brazilian Glaico Franca at UFC 190 last August, losing the bout via third round rear naked choke submission. His second outing inside the Octagon came this past Friday night at The Ultimate Fighter Season 23 Finale, where he dropped a unanimous decision against former UFC lightweight title challenger Gray Maynard. The loss to Maynard now puts the Brazilian on a two-fight deficit and I think there is a fairly good chance he will be released from the promotion. The only way I could see them keeping him around at this point is by pairing him up with someone they would like to see get his hand raised. Anton Zafir Zafir made his Octagon debut at UFC 193 last November, suffering a first round TKO against James “Moonwalker” Moontasri. In his next bout, which came at the aforementioned TUF 23 finale this past weekend, he took on China’s Li Jiangling and suffered another first round knockout. Now 0-2 inside the Octagon and having been finished in the first round of both fights, I think it is almost certain that Zafir will be receiving his walking papers from the promotion. There’s a very small chance that the UFC may keep him around for an Australia card but I would be surprised.
