UFC Fight Night 90’s Gilbert Burns: ‘I took one step back to move several steps forward’

MMAOddsBreaker’s Frank Trigg speaks with UFC Fight Night 90 lightweight Gilbert Burns as he prepares for his upcoming preliminary card fight this Thursday night (July 7, 2016) against Lucas Sajewski at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt suffered his first career defeat in his last fight, but he is viewing the loss as a great learning experience:

“I’m still learning, still in the process. My last fight was my first loss but I learned a lot. I got too emotional in that fight. Good things come from bad things. I still did a lot of good things in that fight, but he was just a high level guy. I’m training with a lot of top level guys and I’m getting a lot of experience. My last fight, I felt a little bit of pressure. The day of the fight, I gassed out a little bit at the end of the first round and got frustrated with the striking, took him down and couldn’t finish. I didn’t fight the way I wanted to fight. That’s why I took a break. I didn’t fight smart. I think I took one step back to move several step forwards with this fight.”
