This past weekend saw a perfect example of why all MMA fans should be tuning in to Cage Warriors Fighting Championships events. Conor McGregor, who was both the Lightweight and Featherweight champion of the UK based organization, made his UFC debut and put on one of the best performances by any fighter stepping foot in the Octagon for the first time. This is the kind of talent that Cage Warriors has been developing over the past few years. While other British promotions have occasionally resorted to gimmickry in order to attract and audience, Cage Warriors has done it the old-fashioned way, by booking quality fighters in well-made fights. This Saturday’s Cage Warriors 53 card, coming from Glasgow, Scotland, is no exception. It is headlined by one of McGregor’s former titles being passed on to a new champion, as Jim Alers and Joni Salovaara square off in what could be a grappling heavy Featherweight Title bout. One of the top prospects in women’s MMA, Joanne Calderwood, also puts her undefeated record on the line in her hometown against Sally Krumdiack in a co-main event which is sure to get the crowd going.
