Post-UFC 198: And the Bonus Goes to…

francisco trinaldoUFC 198 was live from Curitiba, Brazil this past Saturday night (May 14, 2016) with a stacked 12-fight card that produced a 50% finish rate. After the event concluded, the UFC awarded $50,000 to two fighters for ‘Performance of the Night’ and two fighters for ‘Fight of the Night’. The lines to wager on these props were available at Several Bookmakerss. UFC 198’s Post-Fight Bonus-Award winners were… Francisco Trinaldo and Yancy Medeiros earn Fight of the Night honors for their three round battle on the FOX Sports 1 prelims for UFC 198 in Trinaldo’s Brazilian backyard. Both fighters had their moments in the contest, but it was the Brazilian who did most of the damage, nearly putting the Hawaiian away on a number of occasions. Medeiros’ chin held up and he ultimately collected a cool 50-grand for his efforts. It was another solid Octagon outing for Trinaldo, who extended his winning streak to six. Noteworthy fight(s): – Mauricio “Shogun” Rua defeated Corey Anderson via split decision following three solid rounds of action. The Brazilian dropped and hurt The Ultimate Fighter 18 winner a number of times but failed to capitalize with a finish, though he did enough to earn the nod in front of his fellow Brazilian crowd. – Bryan Barnerena defeated Warlley Alves via unanimous decision in what was the biggest upset of the night, and arguably the year. Stipe Miocic earns Performance of the Night for his first round knockout of Fabricio Werdum to become the new UFC Heavyweight Champion. Miocic adds another highlight to his reel and in doing so takes home a championship to Cleveland, a city that has been long needing one. It was another impressive performance by the Ohio-based Croation fighter, who will very likely make his first title defense against Alistair Overeem. Jacare Souza earns Performance of the Night for his fist round TKO of Vitor Belfort. It was a pitch-perfect way for Jacare to bounce back into the win column following a controversial split decision loss to Yoel Romero at UFC 194 back in December. With the impressive victory, he puts himself to arguably challenge the winner of June’ Luke Rockhold vs Chris Weidman middleweight title bout. Noteworthy Performances: = Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino defeated Leslie Smith via TKO in the very first round of action in her long-awaited UFC debut. – Demian Maia defeated Matt Brown via rear naked choke submission with less than a minute remaining in the third and final round of action. – Thiago “Marreta” Santos defeated Nate Marquardt via first round knockout, ultimately adding another highlight to his reel. – Antonio Rogerio Nogueira defeated Patrick Cummins via TKO in the tail end of the opening round of action. It was a pitch-perfect way for Lil’ Nog to return to the win column in front of a roaring Brazilian crowd.
