MMAOddsBreaker’s Frank Trigg speaks with UFC on Fox 19 welterweight Court McGee as he prepares for his upcoming main card bout this Saturday night (April 16, 2016) against Santiago Ponzinibbio at the Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida.
The former Ultimate Fighter season 11 winner was almost on the brink after a rough patch the past few years, but he found that fight was still inside him:
“I’m having more fun in my career just because I’m not as stressed and it’s not make it or break it every day. I came so close to retirement. I had two surgeries go bad on my wrist. And surgeries are really bad for people in recovery because I was offered painkillers and prescription painkillers was one of the things I abused. I’ve made it through 11 surgeries non-narcotic in my UFC career and it’s tough to get through those. I had this burning desire to go back out, not to prove anything, but more just because I’ve still got that fight in me. I questioned if it was still there but I found it.”
