Opening Odds for UFC Futures including Arlovski/Overeem, Cruz/Faber III & Thompson/MacDonald

Cruz-Faber_weigh_inThe Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is going on a three week hiatus after this weekend’s UFC Fight Night 85 event, but there are still plenty of fights to get excited about in the coming weeks and months. UFC on Fox 19 will take place on April 16th and will feature several high profile bouts including a rematch between Dan Henderson and Lyoto Machida as well as a potential women’s strawweight number one contender bout between Rose Namajunas and Tecia Torres. The bout with new odds is Rashad Evans against injury replacement and former title challenger Glover Teixeira, who steps in for the injured Mauricio “Shogun” Rua. The following month on May 8th, UFC Fight Night 87 will feature a main event between former heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski and top contender (and former Strikeforce/Dream champ) Alistair Overeem. Overeem has won his last three fights in the UFC including a second round knockout of former champion Junior dos Santos this past December. Arlovski most recently lost a number one contender bout against Stipe Miocic and is hoping to get back in the mix. Did I forget to mention both men are currently teammates at Jackson/Winklejohn’s gym? This bout is extremely interesting. Also this upcoming June, the co-main event of UFC 199 will be the trilogy fight between Urijah Faber and current UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz. Faber won their initial meeting way back in the WEC at featherweight, but Cruz was victorious in their second meeting in the UFC for the bantamweight title. Faber has won three straight in the bantamweight division while Cruz recently returned from over a two year layoff to defeat the champion TJ Dillashaw via decision this past January to regain the title he never officially lost. Last but not least, top welterweight contenders Stephen Thompson and Rory MacDonald are expected to throw down in the main event of UFC Fight Night 89 on June 18th in Ottawa. Thompson has exploded up the rankings after recently knocking out former champion Johny Hendricks in the main event of UFC Fight Night 82 while MacDonald has not fought since his Fight of the Year defeat at the hands of champion Robbie Lawler last July. The winner of this bout is all but guaranteed a shot at the belt.
