Mixed Martial Arts Veteran Recap: March 2016

61f9e7fc98b11beda1f7427d58379565At the beginning of every month on MMAOddsBreaker, I feature my recurring “Veteran Watch” article which takes a look at some notable veterans competing on the regional/overseas circuit. In this article I recap how these veteran fighters fared in their respective bouts for the month of March.   Mar 4th – M-1 Challenge 65 (St. Petersburg, Russia) Maiquel Falcão (35-8) vs. Ramazan Emeev (13-3) [POSTPONED] Fight was moved to April 8th per Tapology.   Mar 4th – Ring of Combat 54 (Atlantic City, New Jersey) Jay Silva def. Guram Mestvirishvili via Unanimous Decision  Former UFC and Bellator fighter Silva earns his first win since 2013 and subsequently snapped a two-fight losing streak. Mestvirishvili meanwhile comes up short in his pro-MMA debut.   Mar 4th – Unified MMA 26 (Edmonton, Alberta) Tanner Boser def. Tim Hague via TKO (Elbows) at 2:30, RD. 2.  UFC veteran Hague has now lost three straight fights since defeating Boser in 2015. Boser pushed his winning streak to three in a row and has only tasted defeat once in 10-career bouts.   Mar 4th – RFA 36: Barcelos vs. Vannata (Prior Lake, Minnesota) Chico Camus def. Matt Brown via Unanimous Decision Former UFC flyweight Camus earns his first wince since being released from the UFC. After winning four in a row, Brown has now lost back to back fights.   Mar 5th – Carnage in the Cage 6 (Mackay, Queensland) Anthony Johns def. Chris Indich via Unanimous Decision TUF Nations contestant Indich has now lost three fights in a row for the first time in his career. Johns meanwhile has kept his unblemished record in tact by winning four-straight fights.   Mar 5th – Full Contact Contender 15 (Bolton, England) Brendan Loughnane def. David Lee via TKO, RD. 1 Loughnane gets back in the win column and subsequently earned his first TKO victory since 2014.  Lee meanwhile drops to 2-3 in his last five fights.   Mar 5th –KSW 34: New Order (Warsaw, Poland) Karl Bedorf def. James McSweeney via TKO (Strikes) at 3:33, RD. 1 TUF 11 competitor McSweeny has now lost three of his last four fights. Bedorf improved his winning streak to eight in a row.   Mar 11th – CES 33: Soukhamthath vs. Nordby (Lincoln, Rhode Island) Nate Andrews def. Julian Lane via TKO (Punches) at 3:58, RD. 1  Andrews has now won back to back fights by knockout and improves to 7-1 overall in his career. Lane meanwhile has now lost three-straight fights for the first time in his career. Chuck O’Neil def. Dennis Olson via Unanimous Decision Former CES welterweight champion O’Neil snaps his two-fight skid while Olson has now lost three-straight fights.   Mar 12th – KOTC: Extreme Horsepower (Niagara Falls, New York) Matthew DiMarcantonio def. Charles Bennett via Unanimous Decision  Canadian DiMarcantonio has now won three of his last four fights. With the loss Bennett is now 2-2 in his last four fights.   Mar 12th – Akhmat Featherweight Grant Prix (Russia) Frodo Khasbulaev def. Kurt Holobaugh via Unanimous Decision  Khasbulaev gets back in the win column and has now won 10 of his last 11 fights. Meanwhile after winning five fights in a row, Holobaugh has now lost back to back fights for the second time in his career.   Mar 12th – Akhmat Lightweight Grant Prix (Russia) Desmond Green def. David Cubas via TKO, RD. 1  Green has now won two of his last three fights and earns his third knockout victory in his last six fights. Cubas meanwhile hasn’t won a fight since 2012.   Mar 12th – Road FC 29 (Wonju, South Korea) Mu Gyeom Choi def. Marlon Sandro via Unanimous Decision  Choi has now won four of his last five fights and has gone the distance in all of those matchups. Sandro had his two fight unbeaten streak snapped. Soo Chul Kim def. Marcus Brimage via Unanimous Decision  Kim pushed his unbeaten streak to seven straight fights. Brimage has now lost three fights in a row and hasn’t won a fight since 2014. Hong Man Choi (3-4) vs. Aorigele (2-2) [POSTPONED] Matchup was moved to Road FC 30 on April 16th per Tapology.   Mar 19th – Top FC 10 (Seoul, South Korea) Will Chope def. Jung Min Kang via Split Decision UFC veteran Chope earns his sixth win in his last seven bouts. After winning six straight fights, Kang has now lost back to back matchups.   Mar 19th – GOTC MMA 20: Holt vs. Edwards (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) Justin Edwards (8-5) vs. Joey Holt (7-2) [FIGHT CANCELLED] Per BlueGrassMMA.com, fight was scratched due to medical reasons.   Mar 19th – MCF 11: St. Patty’s Day Beatdown IV (North Platte, Nebraska) Eric Prindle def. Maurice Jackson by Submission Prindle earns his third-straight win and has now won back to back fights via submission. Jackson meanwhile has his two-fight win streak snapped.   Mar 25th – Legacy FC 52: Page vs. Schnell (Lake Charles, Louisiana) Damacio Page (19-10) vs. Matt Schnell (9-2) [CANCELLED]  Page suffered an injury and Schnell ended up defeating Jason Sampson. Thomas Webb def. Sean Soriano via KO/TKO at 1:25, RD. 3  Webb has now gone 3-1 in his last four bouts while Soriano has now lost three of his last four fights.   Mar 28th – XFC International 14 (Sao Paulo, Brazil) – POSTPONED Fábio Maldonado (22-9) vs. Andrew Flores Smith (15-9)  Bout postponed until May 28th per Tapology   Is there a notable MMA veteran competing this month that I missed?
