MMAOddsBreaker’s Frank Trigg speaks with World Series of Fighting 29 lightweight champion Justin Gaethje as he prepares for his upcoming title defense this Saturday night (March 12, 2016) against Brian Foster at the Bank of Colorado Arena in Greeley, Colorado.
The current lightweight champion is still undefeated and he feels he’s only just now beginning to tap into his potential as a complete mixed martial artist:
“I’m excited. I’ve been waiting for someone to match my intensity in that cage. [Brian Foster] seems like the guy. He’s definitely not scared. He hits hard as hell so he’s confident that he has that ability. There’s a lot of difference knowing you can go in there and finish someone when you hit them and he has that so I’m excited. I think he’s gonna be a bit too aggressive. I’ve been really working on my footwork, on my head movement. Maybe a little less gambling. A lot of my punches are gambles. I’m very confident I can beat my opponent to the punch which is not something I necessarily have to do. I’ve been fighting a little over four years now and I didn’t train before that. But now, it’s all coming together. Granted, I’m getting hit here and there but it’s a fight. I do fight for a living and I do get punched, but nothing really clean yet. Someone’s going to sleep. I’ll take a choke on this one. I’m not gonna pass up a choke on this one, but I’m going in there to finish him.”
