UFC 196’s Chas Skelly: ‘This might be the ugliest match-up in UFC history’

MMAOddsBreaker’s Frank Trigg speaks with UFC 196 featherweight Chas Skelly as he prepares for his upcoming preliminary card bout this Saturday night (March 5, 2016) against Darren Elkins at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The former Team Takedown fighter is taking his opponent seriously, but isn’t afraid of injecting some self-depreciating humor into his upcoming match-up while breaking the fight down:

“[Darren Elkins] is a lot like I am. He’s a wrestler. He’s a goofy looking guy like me. It might be the ugliest match-up in the history of the UFC. Maybe Keith Jardine vs Wanderlei [Silva] (laughs). I don’t think his striking is very crisp. I think he’s got some holes in his stand-up game. He really uses his strikes to work towards the takedown. He’s a grinder so he’s always gonna be in your face, always gonna be pushing forward and looking for those takedowns. From watching the film, I believe my jiu-jitsu is better and I believe my wrestling and my striking areĀ better. One thing with a guy like this is you have to come in in shape. You have to prepare or else he’s gonna wear you out.”
