MMA Odds and Ends for Wednesday: Alvey injured, Maldonado among latest UFC cuts, RIZIN Day 2 weigh-in results

Sam Alvey injured and out of UFC Fight Night 82 bout against Daniel Sarafian Sam Alvey has suffered a broken jaw and has withdrawn from his scheduled Feb. 21 UFC Fight Night 82 with Daniel Sarafian in Pittsburgh. Alvey (26-7) first broke the news to MMA Latest and this was later confirmed by MMAFighting.  Alvey had his three fight winning streak snapped in his last fight as he suffered a first round knockout loss to Derek Brunson at UFC Fight Night 73 in August. The UFC has not named a replacement opponent for Sarafian at this point. UFC Fight Night 82 takes place Feb. 21 at Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh.   Fabio Maldonado and seven other fighters released from the UFC MMAFighting.com reports that the UFC has cut ties with eight fighters including fan favourte Fabio Maldonado. Along with Maldonado, the UFC has also released Chico Camus, Kevin Souza, Ericka Almeida, Bubba Bush, Mickael Lebout, Vernon Ramos and Jumabieke Tuerxun. Maldonado (22-9) has had an up and down career in the UFC. First he won his promotional debut over James McSweeney in 2010, then lost three straight fights. He then won three in a row before going 1-4 in his last five fights. Souza (15-4) being released was a bit of a head scratcher. The 31-year old was riding a 10-fight winning streak (including three-straight wins in the UFC) before losing to Chas Skelly back in November at UFC Fight Night 77. In addition to that, Souza told MMAFighting that he wasn’t told by the UFC about the release. Camus (14-7) hadn’t won a fight since defeating Brad Pickett in 2014. Lebout (14-5-1, 1 NC) is coming off back to back losses to Sergio Moraes and Steven Ray. Meanwhile Ramos (3-1), Bush (8-3, 1 NC), Almeida (7-2) and Tuerxun (15-3) racked up a combined 0-7 record with one NC in the UFC before being released.   Rizin Fighting Federation, Day 2: Fedor vs. Singh weigh-in video Miss the weigh-ins for RIZIN Day two? Here’s who weighed in and you catch watch the reply below.
