UFC 161 Adds Jimmo/Pokrajac, Clarke/Maguire

The UFC added two more fights to the upcoming UFC 161 card in Winnipeg today, as Neil Davidson of The Canadian Press reported a light heavyweight matchup of Ryan Jimmo vs. Igor Pokrajac for the card, while lightweights Mitch Clarke and John Maguire will also meet in a three-round fight. Jimmo (17-2) and Pokrajac (25-9, 1 NC) is a fight between two strikers who are coming off losses, with Jimmo losing a decision to James Te Huna at UFC on FUEL TV 7 and Pokrajac dropping a stinker to Joey Beltran at UFC on FX 6 (which was later overturned to a No Contest after Beltran tested positive for steroids). Expect Jimmo to open as a 2-to-1 favorite in this fight, which should be a brawl. As for Clarke (9-2) vs. Maguire (18-5), both men are coming off of two-straight losses so this is no doubt a must-win fight for each guy. Expect Maguire to open as a -175 favorite due to his excellent Brazilian jiu-jitsu game, but Clarke has a lot of heart and can never be counted out of a fight.

Sperry Leaves Blackzilians

A bit of surprising news out of Boca Raton, Florida, today as head coach Mario Sperry has left the Blackzilians. TATAME.com reported the news, citing Blackzilian team member Danillo Villefort, who said the team will now operate without a head coach. The Blackzilians have been one of the worst camps in MMA in 2013 so far, with its fighters owning a terrible collective record, so we’ll see what affect Sperry leaving the camp has on its fighter — hopefully a positive one.
