UFC Fight Night 79 Date: November 28, 2015 Arena: Olympic Gymnastics Arena City: Seoul, South Korea The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) heads to Seoul, South Korea for the first time in promotional history with UFC Fight Night 79: Henderson vs Masvidal. The event will feature 11 bouts and will be aired in its entirety on UFC Fight Pass, starting with preliminary action at 5am ET and following with the main card at 8pm ET. If interested in wagering on these plays, or any plays for this fight card, all betting lines will be made available at Several Bookmakerss. Here are my live dogs: Welterweight bout: Alberto Mina (+130) vs Yoshihiro Akiyama (-150) Gabe’s Thoughts: I think there is a good chance Mina knocks “Sexiyama” out in this 170-pound scrap. I see that as being the most likely outcome. If he has improved his cardio since his Octagon debut, I could see him walking away with a decision. However, if it hasn’t, I expect Akiyama will put him away in the second or third, after surviving the first round. I think Mina finishes Akiyama early, but if he doesn’t, I hope he’s been wise enough to improve his conditioning, which I think he will have put a focus on. You don’t step into the cage with Akiyama with a low tank of gas. Akiyama isn’t a cardio machine himself, but he will really wear down a faded fighter. I see this as a coin-flip fight, so at Mina’s underdog tag of +130, I’m going to take a stab. Gabe’s Call: Mina by T/KO (strikes, 1:17 round 1) Gabe’s Recommended Play: Mina (+130) 1u to win 1.3u Welterweight bout: Dominique Steele (-130) vs Dong Hyun Kim (+110) Gabe’s Thoughts: “Maestro” is a natural lightweight stepping up to the welterweight division on short notice to make his UFC debut, replacing Jorge Masvidal, who stepped up to face Benson Henderson in the main event as a late injury replacement for Thiago Alves. This is Steele’s second Octagon appearance, after being dominated and finished by Zak Cummings inside of the first round. I think think he is a UFC-calibre athlete, and even against a lightweight who I’m not entirely sold on, I expect Steele to come up short. This is more of a fade on him than a bet on Kim, though I do think Kim is the superior striker and packs more power. Not to mention has the bigger heart and will be willing to do more to pick up a win. I expect Kim to impress in his UFC debut, earning a dominant win over Steele, likely in the first round, and sending him packing from the promotion. Gabe’s Call: Kim by T/KO (strikes, 2:07 round 1) Gabe’s Recommended Play: Kim (+130) 2u to win 2.2u
