He has heavy hands, especially for a flyweight, so I could definitely see him connect and put Vaculik out. For Vaculik, this is one of the easier match-ups he could get in the division, though I still see him as the underdog going in. I think Martinez should be a -170 betting favorite here, and at his current offering price of -115, I have to side with him for a value play. Gabe’s Call: Martinez by T/KO (punches, 1:03 round 1) Gabe’s Recommended Play: Martinez (-115) 2.3u to win 2u Flyweight bout: Ben Nguyen (-145) vs Ryan Benoit (+125) Gabe’s Thoughts: Benoit scored the biggest win of his professional mixed martial arts career in come-from-behind fashion against Sergio Pettis, knocking “The Phenom” out with a counter-hook in the second round of action. It was a very impressive way for the Texan to return to the win column after being submitted by Josh Sampo in his debut with the promotion. Now in the UFC’s win column, he aims to make it two in a row against Nguyen, who scored an upset TKO over Alptekin Ozkilic in his promotional debut. Both of these 125-pounders are solid on the feet, but I think Nguyen holds the advantage, which makes me favor him in this contest. Benoit has the grappling advantage, but I think the majority of this bout will play out on the feet, where I think Nguyen will likely outpoint Benoit en route to a unanimous decision victory on the judges’ scorecards.
