The Ultimate Fighting Championship returned to Sao Paolo, Brazil Saturday night (November 7, 2015) with UFC Fight Night 77: Belfort vs Henderson III. Following the night of fun scraps, let’s take a look at which competitors from the evening we may no longer see in action inside the Octagon… ON THE CHOPPING BLOCK Piotr Hallmann Hallmann made his Octagon debut in Brazil just over two years ago, earning a second round upset submission win over Francisco Trinaldo. He went on to face Long Island’s Al Iaquinta in his next outing and dropped a unanimous decision, but bounced back with a third round rear naked choke submission over now-retired veteran Yves Lavigne. Since then, he has dropped three in a row, including back to back T/KO defeats in his latest Octagon outings, the most vicious of which came against Alex Oliveira on the main card of last night’s UFC Fight Night 77 in Brazil. The Pole has shown promise and is a solid lightweight in the division, however it is hard to ignore the fact that he is now 2-5 inside the Octagon with a three fight losing streak and also has a positive drug test on his record. So keeping in mind the crazy amount of cuts the UFC has been making lately, I think it is safe to say we have seen the last of Hallmann inside the Octagon. That said, I would not be surprised to see him return on a future card in Poland, should he pick up a win or two outside of the promotion. Gasan Umalatov The Russian dropped a unanimous decision against Viscardi Andrade Saturday night at UFC Fight Night 77 in Brazil and is now 1-3 inside the Octagon, with a two-fight skid. All four of his bouts have been lackluster and have gone the three round distance, so following his back-to-back losses, I think there is a good chance the UFC will be releasing from his contract. He did not really show anything in his last bout, or in any of his bouts, to make me think he can hang with the welterweights in the UFC. Perhaps he would have better luck if he dropped down to 155 pounds, but I think the promotion will cut ties with him without offering him that option.
