Diving into the WSOF 24 Main Card

UFC-middleweight-Yushin-OkamiThe World Series of Fighting (WSOF) returns with WSOF 24: Fitch vs Okami tonight (October 17th, 2015). The event will feature 12 bouts in its entirety, including a seven-fight preliminary card to stream live on the promotion’s website at 7pm ET and a five-fight main card to get going on the NBC Sports Network at 9pm ET. If interested in wagering on any bouts for this fight card, all betting lines will be made available at Several Bookmakerss. Kicking things off for the evening’s main card will be a five round title bout for the World Series of Fighting inaugral Flyweight Championship title, and contending for the gold will be 9-0 Magomed Bibalatov and 5-0 Donovan Frelow. Not only are both fighters undefeated, but they are also making their WSOF debuts in this title bout, so they will be aiming to make a statement inside the cage. Bibulatov opened as a massive -505 betting favorite in this title fight, with his opponent Frelow being a heavy +335 underdog. The public has come in big on the Chechnyan, as current betting odds are -1100/+700. Next up on the World Series of Fighting 24 main card is a lightweight bout between Masachusettes’ Nick Newell and New York’s Tom Marcellino. Newell will be looking to make it two in a row since his failed bid for the gold, while Marcellino aims to return to the win column following an extended layoff which came after a unanimous decision loss to now-UFC lightweight Frankie Perez. Newell openes as the betting favorite in this 155-pound scrap at -380, with Marcellino being the underdog at +260. The public has since backed Newell, bringing betting lines to a current -475/420. Middling the WSOF 24 main card of the evening on NBCSN will be a battle between a pair of former UFC light heavyweights in the form of Matt Hammill and Vinny Magalhaes. Hammill has not seen action in over two years, in his last appearance with the UFC, where he dropped a unanimous decision to Thiago Silva. Magalhaes went 1-2 in his second stint with the UFC, dropping two in a row and receiving his pink slip for the second time. He retired after getting cut, but eventually returned to action and has since strung together two in a row, most recently a guillotine choke submission win over another UFC veteran in Jason Brilz. The Brilz win came over a year ago and the Brazilian is set to return to action following the extended layoff. Ring rust could certainly play a factor for both 205-pound fighters heading into this main event showdown. Hammill opened as a +200 betting underdog in this bout, with Magalhaes being a -280 favorite to get his hand raised. The public has since backed the Brazilian, with current betting lines being +318/-350. The WSOF 24 co-main event of the evening will be for the promotion’s heavyweight title, as the Bulgarian Blagoi Ivanov gets set to make his first WSOF Heavyweight Championship title defense against Iowa’s Derrick Mehmen. Both big men are certainly well-rounded finishers, owning a combined 23 of 31 professional mixed martial arts victories by way of finish; 15 by knockout and eight by submission. The World Series of Fighting 24 main event of the evening will be a three round welterweight contest between former UFC contenders Jon Fitch and Yushin Okami. Fitch looks to return to the win column following a first round submission loss to Rousihmar Palhares in a welterweight title fight. Okami makes his welterweight debut in this bout, coming off a fourth round TKO loss against WSOF Middleweight Champion Dave Branch, in what was the Japanese veteran’s shot at the strap. Both veterans hope to remain relevant with an impressive victory this evening. They both have a lot riding on the line, and the pressure tonight is high. A two-fight skid is something both fighters want to avoid at this stage in their careers. The betting lines for this main event showdown opened at a near-coin flip price, with Fitch being -105 and Okami being -135. After back and forth action, current betting lines are +140/-150.
