Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) may not have been too busy this week in regards to fight announcements, but other promotions decided to carry some of that extra burden. Tyrone Spong vs Jake Heun – WSOF 26 Just days after publicly campaigning for a short notice UFC fight against Ben Rothwell, it appears elite kickboxer Tyrone Spong was trolling everyone. Spong clearly had a fight in the works for an upcoming World Series of Fighting card. The event will take place this upcoming December 18th in Las Vegas and will feature Spong against WSOF veteran Jake Heun. Heun (8-4) currently holds a 2-1 record under the WSOF banner, most recently winning this past August via first round submission over Devin Clark. He’s experienced and well-rounded enough to provide a pretty solid test as to Spong’s current skill-set. The ground game has always been a big question mark when it comes to Spong and Heun does have two submission victories on his resume, so we could see it tested here. Regardless, I expect Spong to open as a hefty favorite due to his background, athleticism and the public hype. Lance Palmer vs TBA 0 WSOF 26 Hopefully this plan doesn’t backfire, but WSOF is also holding a featherweight number one contender bout tomorrow night in the battle of the Almeidas as top prospects Saul Almeida (18-5) and Alexandre Almeida (16-5) square off on the preliminary card. Both prospects are young and on winning streaks, but it’ll be a tall task to see either of them in a co-main event against the champ at this point in their careers. Lance Palmer has looked terrific since transitioning to mixed martial arts, with only one small hiccup thus far in his career against the extremely talented Georgi Karakhanyan. Palmer took the belt from then-champion Rick Glenn via third round submission and then defended his title most recently against Chris Horodecki with a first round stoppage this past June. He appears more than ready for a jump to the UFC, but until that happens, he’s going to consistently be a monster favorite when it comes to the oddsmakers and that won’t change with this next fight, regardless of who wins.
