Matchup with Francisco Trevino This is a very favorable matchup for Sage Northcutt in his UFC debut. The teenager from Katy, Texas has the striking prowess to give Trevino problems plus his athleticism is something that Trevino cannot compete with. Northcutt will mix up his striking and then work in wrestling with his excellent double leg technique. Look for Northcutt to control this fight from start to finish. While a quick finish would fast track him even quicker, a dominating decision would get him some extra time in the cage and with his experience, that isn’t a bad thing. UFC Ceiling It isn’t often when a 19-year old “A” level athlete enters the UFC. That is exactly what Sage Northcutt is. He comes from an excellent amateur martial arts background with a high level of athleticism and ability. Having only turned pro a year ago, one has to wonder if this is too much, too soon. The UFC should let the kid prove his ability one fight at a time. There’s no need to push him too quickly given the level of talent in the lightweight division. With Northcutt’s unique stand up skill set, impressive offensive wrestling, and natural ability, he has the potential to be competing with the best in the division a few years down the road.
