Diving into the Main Card for Bellator 142: Dynamite!

tito-ortizBellator FC heads to San Jose, CA tonight (September 19, 2015) for Bellator 142: Dynamite! The stacked 15-fight card will kick off with a preliminary card on the promotion’s website at 6:30pm ET, with main card action getting going at 9pm ET on Spike TV. If interested in wagering on any bouts for this fight card, all betting lines will be made available at Several Bookmakerss. Kicking things off for the evening’s main card will be the first light heavyweight tournament opening round bout. Leaving the UFC and making his Bellator debut will be “Mr. Wonderful” Phil Davis, as he takes on former Bellator light heavyweight champion “The Hardcore Kid” Emanuel Newton. There is a lot riding on the line for both fighters heading into this contest, and they are both looking to make a statement. Davis wants to prove that the UFC made a mistake by allowing him to walk away, and Newton believes he won his last bout, so he wants to prove that he’s still the best in the Bellator 205-pound division. Davis opened as a -405 betting favorite over Newton in this contest, with Newton being a +285 underdog. After what I think has been some back and forth action, current betting lines have tightened to -400/+355. Another pair of light heavyweights take center stage for the next bout of the night, also coming in the promotion’s 205-pound title tournament, as Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal gets set to take on Linton Vassell. Mo currently enjoys a three-fight winning streak and aims to make it four in a row against Vassell, while simultaneously taking a step towards the gold. Vassell is coming off a second round TKO win over the veteran Sokoudjou and gets a big step up in competition for this outing, against the best wrestler he has faced thus far in his professional mixed martial arts career. He aims to score another T/KO finish, which would make for the top highlight on his reel. “King Mo” opened as a -405 favorite in this bout, with Vassell being the underdog at +285. The public has since backed the Brit, bringing betting lines to a current -300/+300. Middling the main card on Spike TV will be a lightweight contest that sees another UFC veteran make the jump to Bellator, as Josh “The Punk” Thomson gets set to take on Mike “The Greek” Bronzoulis. After capturing the Legacy FC lightweight title in his latest outing which made him three in a row, “The Greek” returns to Bellator to welcome Thomson, who is coming off a unanimous decision defeat against The Ultimate Fighter season 13 winner Tony “El Cucuy” Ferguson. “The Punk” opened as a massive -705 favorite over Bronzoulis, who opened as a +435 underdog. The public has since backed Thomson, making current betting lines -1100/+900. The co-main event of the evening will see the winner of Phil Davis and Emanuel Newton take on the winner of “King Mo” and Linton Vassell. The winner of that bout will challenge the winner of the main event of the evening for the promotion’s 205-pound gold. In the main event of the event, Bellator light heavyweight champion Liam McGeary makes his first title defense against “The Huntington Beach Bad Boy” Tito Ortiz. The veteran Ortiz was offered a fight against Ken Shamrock, which was what the promotion wanted for him, but he made it a point that he was serious about challenging McGeary for the title. Ortiz wanted the fight and he’s getting what he fished for. McGeary opened as a -445 betting favorite against him, with him being an underdog to win at +315. The public has since strongly supported the champ, driving betting lines to their current -1000/+800.
