James Krause: ‘Some of my coaches want me to go to 170’

MMAOddsBreaker’s Frank Trigg speaks with the recently victorious James Krause about his UFC on Fox 16 victory last month (July 25, 2015) over lightweight Daron Cruickshank at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois.

The Grindhouse MMA fighter cuts a significant amount of weight to make the lightweight limit and it’s having an adverse affect on his ability to fight as often as he probably would like to:

“That’s another thing we talked about, the weight cut. I cut a lot of weight. It is difficult for me. Like I can’t turn around and fight again in two weeks. When I fight, I’m between 180 and 185 [pounds]. Some of my coaches want me to go to 170. I’m not eating like crap, I’m not eating great but I probably weight 190 pounds or more right now. I’m an in-betweener. If there was a 160 [pound weight class] it would be great for me because I can’t just make 155 on a couple weeks’ notice. It takes me quite a while to do it. It’s tough man to really find that balance. It makes me not want to fight as much.”
