Post-UFC Fight Night 73: And the Bonus Goes to…

marlon-veraThe Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) returned to Nashville, TN Saturday night (August 8, 2015) for the third time in promotional history for UFC Fight Night 73: Teixeira vs Saint Preux. After the event concluded, the UFC awarded $50,000 to two fighters for ‘Performance of the Night’ and two fighters for ‘Fight of the Night’. The lines to wager on these props were available at Several Bookmakerss. Glover Teixeira and Ovince St Preux earn Fight of the Night honors for their battle in the main event of this past Saturday night’s UFC Fight Night 73 in Nashville. OSP hurt and nearly finished Teixeira in the first stanza, however the Brazilian turned the tides with his superior wrestling and ultimately wrapped things up by putting OSP to sleep with a rear naked choke (technical) submission. It was a solid outing by Teixeira and a good way for him to find himself back in the win column. Other noteworthy fight(s): None. Marlon Vera earns Performance of the Night honors for his second round triangle-armbar submission of Roman Salazar. After being put on his back and going on to lose the first round, Vera found himself in a similar spot in the second, but quickly capitalized by wrapping up a triangle and then applying the armbar to force the tap, ultimately earning his first victory in the UFC. It was a solid outing for the Ecuadorian, who is eager to return to action and make it two in a row inside the Octagon. Scott Holtzman earns Performance of the Night honors for his third round rear naked choke submission of Anthony Christodoulou. He dominated the Greek on the feet for the first two rounds of action and it was more of the same in the third until he decided to take the mat and try his luck there, where he quickly found out he was equally dominant there. Once on the mat, it was only a matter of time before Holtzman sunk in the choke to earn the tap for his first Octagon victory. It was a good promotional debut for the undefeated fighter from Tennessee, and he shows promise at 155-pounds. Other noteworthy performances: – Glover Teixeira’s aforementioned third round rear naked choke (technical) submission of Ovince St Preux in the main event of the evening. – Derek Brunson defeated Sam Alvey via TKO in the first round of action. It was a very impressive performance by Brunson, who extends his Octagon winning streak to three. – Dustin Ortiz defeated Willie Gates via TKO in the third round of action. After dominating Gates with his wrestling and ground and pound for the first two rounds, he wrapped things up in the third, ultimately bouncing back into the win column following a hiccup against Joseph Benavidez. – Jonathan Wilson defeated Chris Dempsey via knockout in the first round of action. The promotional newcomer needed but 0:50 seconds to get the job done in highlight-reel fashion.
