The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) returned to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil last night with UFC 190: Rousey vs Correia and produced a memorable night of mixed martial arts action, culminating with Rousey’s 34-second destruction of Correira. Following the exciting night of fights, let’s take a look at which of the evening’s competitors we may no longer see inside the Octagon… ON THE CHOPPING BLOCK Clint Hester After coming off the seventeenth season of The Ultimate Fighter, Hester went on a 4-0 run inside the Octagon with back to back T/KO’s of Bristol Marune and Dylan Andrews, and a pair of decisions over Andy Enz and Antonio Braga Neto, the latter of which was a very controversial split decision. Since the hot run, Hester has gone on to drop two in a row, with both losses coming by way of TKO in the second round of action; the first against Robert Whittaker, and most recently against Vitor Miranda at last night’s UFC 190 in Rio de Janeiro. Officially, Hester is now on a two fight losing streak, but unoficially it’s three, as his nod over Neto was quite befuddling. With back to back TKO losses, I think there’s a fair chance Hester will be receiving his pink slip from the promotion, though I would not be shocked to see him get another crack. Hugo Viana The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil veteran started his UFC career strong with back to back victories but has since fallen to a 1-3 skid, including last night’s unanimous decision loss to Guido Canetti at UFC 193 in Rio de Janeiro. To be fair, the two other defeats came against surging prospect Aljamain Sterlin and current UFC Bantamweight Champion TJ Dillashaw, but as I’ve said before, the UFC is not exactly in the fair business. Now after back to back losses, following an uninspiring outing, I think there is a decent chance the promotion opts to part was with the Brazilian. However, it would not surprise me to see him get another shot on another card in Brazil down the line.
