World Series of Fighting 22 Closing Odds and Results

Rousimar-Palhares-2World Series of Fighting (WSOF) 22 took place last night (August 1, 2015) at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, and overall the card was interesting featuring a variety of quick stoppages, some battles of attrition and some controversy in the main event. Overall from a betting perspective, four favorites and one underdog won based on the closing odds at Several Bookmakers. Here’s a quick recap for each fight. WSOF 22 Favorites That Won In the co-main event of the evening, bantamweight champion Marlon Moraes took advantage of an opening against Sheymon Moraes, hurting the then-undefeated fighter before finishing him off with a choke in the third round. Moraes picked up a submission to retain his title as a -500 (Bet $500 to win $100) favorite while Sheymon Moraes out of steam at +400 (Bet $100 to win $400). In light heavyweight title bout, short notice replacement Clifford Starks utilized his superior wrestling to control Mike Kyle en route to winning a unanimous decision. Starks closed at -150 and Kyle was +130. In a welterweight title fight, Abubakar Nurmagomedov made a very impressive WSOF debut by completely dominating Jorge Moreno with his superior wrestling, sambo and overall ground game. Nurmagomedov held serve as a whopping -31100 betting favorite while Moreno was a +700 underdog. In the lightweight division, Islam Mamedov continued to dominate, taking down Jimmy Spicuzza and then blistering him with unanswered strikes until the referee finally intervened at the end of the first round. Mamedov was a -1200 betting favorite while Spicuzza was +775. WSOF 22 Underdogs that Won In the main event of the evening in a welterweight title bout, Jake Shields looked to be in control after two rounds of top position against champion Rousimar Palhares, but Palhares, perhaps aided by some eye gouging earlier in the fight, locked on a Kimura in round three to force a tap (and once again cranked the submission afterwards). Palhares closed as a +165 underdog while Shields was -190.
