UFC on FOX 16 came and went, producing an evening of memorable mixed martial arts action. The event is now in our rear-view, so let’s take a look at which of the evening’s competitors we may no longer see inside the Octagon… ON THE CHOPPING BLOCK Danny Castillo Castillo has now dropped three fights in a row and is 4-1 in his last five, so there is a good chance he could be getting released from the promotion following this past Saturday night’s outing against Jim Miller, to whom he lost to via controversial split decision. That’s two controversial split decision calls in his last three fights/defeats for Castillo, so with that in mind, it’s possible he could be receiving one last crack insinde the Octagon. He does not appear to be on a decline, either, even considering the fact that he is turning 36 years of age next month. Even at this age he has been showing an improved skill-set inside the Octagon, especially in regards to his striking. Being a long-time veteran under Zuffa, I think there is a decent chance he could receive another shot, however I think the odds of him being released are greater. We will wait and see if that was indeed the “Last Call” for Castillo. Jessamyn Duke Coming off a unanimous decision loss to Elizabeth Phillip’s at this past Saturday’s UFC on FOX 16 in Chicago, Duke is now on a three fight skid and will all but surely be facing contract termination. I think Duke showed promise when she first entered the UFC but rather than improving, she appears to have gone on somewhat of a decline. I don’t think she has gotten any better since she signed with the UFC; I think she has gotten somewhat worse. After three consecutive defeats; a pair of unanimous decision losses to Bethe Correia and the aforementioned Phillips, and a first round TKO against Leslie Smith, I think it is very likely that she will be receiving the pink slip from the UFC.
