The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is headed back to the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, NV on Saturday, July 11th for UFC 189. The stacked card will feature 11 bouts in entirety, including two title fights. Main card action is set to get underway at 10pm ET on Pay Per View, with a four fight preliminary card preceding it at 8pm ET on FOX Sports 1 and a pair of scraps beforehand on UFC Fight Pass at 7pm ET. Here are my live dogs for UFC 189: Welterweight bout: Matt Brown (-185) vs Tim Means (+160) Gabe’s Thoughts: I think Means is the superior striker heading into this match-up and I see him getting the better of Brown on the feet, likely handing him the first T/KO defeat of his professional mixed martial arts career. The only way I could see Brown winning this fight is if he decides to outwrestle Means, which I think would make it a closer fight, but I would still lean with Means to edge it out. That said, I think Brown is going to look to trade with Means, and he’s going to end up paying a price for that. At UFC 189 in Las Vegas, I like “Dirty Bird” to pick up the biggest win of his career, and in highlight reel fashion. Gabe’s Call: Means by T/KO (punches and elbows, 2:04 round 1) Gabe’s Recommended Play: Means (+160) 4.5u to win 7.2u Flyweight bout: Louis Smolka (-120) vs Neil Seery (+100) Gabe’s Thoughts: Simply put, I think Seery’s grittiness and advantage in grappling is going to prove to be the difference in this 125-pound contest, as I see him scoring takedowns and spending enough time in top position on the mat to pick up at least two out of three rounds on the judges’ scorecards for a unanimous decision victory. I think Seery grinds this one out by pressuring Smolka against the cage and repeatedly taking him down, rinse and repeat for 15 minutes.
