Post-UFC Fight Night 69: On the Chopping Block

Yuta SasakiThe Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) returned to Berlin, Germany with UFC Fight Night 69 and produced a night of solid scraps, and with the action now in our rear-view, let’s take a look at which competitors from the fight card we may no longer see inside the Octagon… ON THE CHOPPING BLOCK Antonio dos Santos, Jr. The Brazilian is now 0-2 inside the Octagon, having lost both bouts via technical knockout (TKO). He showed some potential, but had bad luck in both contests, which he was winning until the point he lost. Against Daniel Sarafian in his promotional debut, he was getting the better of the exchanges on the feet until dislocating his finger and having the fight waved off. Against Scott Askham in Berlin yesterday for UFC Fight Night 69, dos Santos, Jr. was getting the better of Askham, untill getting caught, and ultimately finished. I think it’s 50/50 whether the UFC sends him the pink-slip, or if he gets a third crack, which almost surely would come on a fight card in Brazil. Ulka Sasaki In a match-up he was a near 3-to-1 favorite going into for his assumed massive edge in grappling, Sasaki failed to get the fight to the mat against Taylor “Double Impact” Lapilus, who outstruck the Japanese fighter in the first frame, before soundly finishing him with his hands in the second. After earning a first round rear naked choke submission win over Roland Delorme in his promotional debut, Sasaki has dropped his last two fights, the first of which was a second round submission defeat against decorated Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black-belt Leandro Issa. He was expected to return to the win column at yesterday’s UFC Fight Night 69 in Berlin when he took on Lapilus, but unfortunately for him, things did not go his way and now he faces possible termination from the promotion. I think there is a fairly good chance the UFC gives him one last chance by giving him a fight on the upcoming Japan card in September, but I would not be surprised to see him cut from the roster after this performance.
