My Fights to AVOID betting for UFC 187 are: Strawweight bout: Nina “The Strina” Ansaroff (+260) vs “Thug” Rose Namajunas (-290) Fight Prediction: I am conflicted on this match-up and have been back and forth with both ladies as to who my official pick is, however Ansaroff missing weight by four pounds at the weigh-ins yesterday made me opt to side with Namajunas. If the fight hits the cards, I think it could be close, and if there’s a finish, I could see it coming by either party, but I favor Namajunas slightly more under both circumstances. I think this is a “dog or pass” situation, and I was having a dilemma about which way I was going to go, but after watching the weigh-ins, my decision got a lot easier. Gabe’s Call: “Thug” by Split Decision (28-29, 29-28, 29-28) Gabe’s Recommended Play: AVOID Flyweight bout: Josh “The Gremlin” Sampo (+355) vs Justin “Tank” Scoggins (-400) Fight Prediction: Personally, I am a big fan of Scoggins’ and the fan in me would like to see him get his hand raised, but as for a bet, I think this has been another “dog or pass” situation, and I have spent a good deal of time eyeing a play on the dog. It all comes down to the betting lines, as I think they should be closer than they currently are. While I see value in Sampo at his current underdog price of +355, I am finding it hard to pull the trigger on it. I even thought to maybe just take the Sampo +3.5 prop at +155, but I found no value there. If he ends up losing, which he is expected to do, it could very well come inside the distance. As for Sampo getting his hand raised, I could see him catching Scoggins with something, as well, but more than likely, I think it would come on the judges’ scorecards, and likely a split decision. That said, I think if both fighters show up mentally focused, injury free and fully prepared, it could be a close and competitive match-up, but I see Scoggins taking home a unanimous decision victory on the judges’ scorecards. Gabe’s Call: “Tank” by Unanimous Decision (29-28, 30-27, 30-27) Gabe’s Recommended Play: AVOID
