UFC Fight Night 63 Closing Odds & Results

Chad Mendes UFC Fight Night 63 took place Saturday afternoon at Patriot Center in Virgnia and overall it was a solid card that featured a number of standout individual performances, particularly on the main card. Overall from a betting perspective, six betting favorites won while four underdogs won and one fight was a Pick ’em based on the closing odds at Several Bookmakers. Here’s a quick recap for each fight. Favorites That Won In the main event, Chad Mendes defeated Ricardo Lamas via first-round TKO (punches). Mendes connected with some heavy blows early on and kept throwing strikes at Lamas until the referee stopped the fight. Mendes closed at -440 (bet $440 to win $100) while Lamas closed at +390 (bet $100 to win $390). In a lightweight bout, Michael Chiesa defeated Mitch Clarke via unanimous decision (29-26x 2, 29-28). Chiesa had control of Clarke in the first two rounds on the mat and though Clarke made a run late in the third, he couldn’t do enough to get the win. Chiesa was -400 while Clarke was +355. In a women’s bantamweight bout, Julianna Pena defeated Milana Dudieva via first-round TKO (elbows and punches). Pena achieved mount position early in the fight and kept raining down strikes until the referee was forced to stop the action. Pena was -400 and Dudieva +335. In a featherweight bout, Clay Guida defeated Robbie Peralta via unanimous decision (30-27 x 3). Guida took Peralta down in every round and grinded him out on the mat for a clear-cut decision win. Guida was -235 while Peralta was +215. In a lightweight bout, Dustin Poirier defeated Carlos Diego Ferreira via first-round TKO (punches). Poirier’s boxing looked splendid in this one as he hit Ferreira all over the head before finally dropping him and getting the stoppage. Poirier was -145 while Ferreira was +135. In a lightweight bout, Alexander Yakovlev defeated Gray Maynard via unanimous decision (30-27 x 2, 29-28). Yakovlev took Maynard down and also knocked him down in the second round as he collected points on the judges’ cards and won his first fight in the UFC. Yakovlev closed at -135 and Maynard +125. Underdogs That Won In a women’s bantamweight bout, Liz Carmouche defeated Lauren Murphy via unanimous decision (29-28 x 3). Murphy grinded out Carmouche along the fence and on the mat but the judges somehow sided with Carmouche and she got the nod. Murphy was -115 and Carmouche was +105. In a heavyweight bout, Timothy Johnson via Shamil Abdurahimov via first-round TKO (punches). Johnson achieved mount position late in the round and landed unanswered punches until the referee stopped the fight. Johnson was +230, Aburahimov -250. In a middleweight bout, Ron Stallings defeated Justin Jones via unanimous decision (29-28 x 2, 30-27). This was a close fight that could have gone either way, but the judges felt that Stallings did more on the feet and gave him the victory. He cashed as a +165 dog while Jones lost as a -175 favorite. Pick ‘em Fights In a lightweight bout, Al Iaquinta defeated Jorge Masvidal via split decision (29-28, 27-30, 29-28). Masvidal won the first round after he rocked Iaquinta, but lost the second and third after being too inactive. Both fighters closed at -105 a piece.
