Retired UFC Middleweight Chael Sonnen: ‘The 25 minute fight against Anderson Silva favors Nick Diaz’

MMAOddsBreaker’s Frank Trigg speaks with retired UFC middleweight Chael Sonnen about all the latest MMA news including the main event between Anderson Silva and Nick Diaz tonight (Jan. 31, 2015) at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The former three-time UFC title challenger speaks from experience due to his two epic battles against Silva, and he feels there is potential for Nick Diaz to pull off a miracle if he can take this fight into deep waters:

“When you look at who’s more likely to win, you lean towards Anderson, but the intangible is that this is the main event, which means 25 minutes of that Diaz pressure. I’ve watched Anderson’s fights so closely when I was preparing for him and one thing I noticed was he didn’t do a lot of fighting. because guys were so scared of him. When you really engaged him, there was an opportunity to push the pace and wear him down a little bit. If there’s anything we can all agree on, it’s that Diaz will fight him. Diaz will come across the ring and punch him in the face. If they go the full 25 minutes, as you really get into it, I think it really does favor Diaz… Anderson’s certainly a talented guy but this is one of those fights that has a lot of moving parts. I think Anderson’s injury, particularly with his age, 39 years old, it matters. If I’m wrong, then I’ll be inspired all over again.”
