Battlegrounds MMA’s Kenny Monday: ‘We are a country of tournaments’

MMAOddsBreaker’s Frank Trigg speaks with Battleground MMA promoter Kenny Monday as he prepares for his upcoming inaugural pay-per-view tonight (October 3, 2014) at the BOK Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

The former Olympian and current coach/promoter had a ton of great things to say about his upcoming one-night eight-man tournament, and he firmly believes America will fall in love all over again with the format for MMA:

“We’re a country of tournaments. We are. I grew up in the tournament format. That’s how I honed my skills. That’s how I became great. We love tournaments. From the Final Four, to the football playoffs. We are a country of tournaments and people can relate to tournaments and get behind the guys. That’s gonna be interesting as well to see how fans get behind a certain fighter and stay with him. If we have an upset early, and he’s gonna build a fanbase. He’s gonna come back and have fans cheering for him. There’s always an upset and it’ll be interesting to see how they get through it.”
