Saturday marks Invicta FC’s return to the cage for the first time in 2014. The promotion hasn’t put on a card since December 2013, and even though they’ve had no action in terms of fights there have been several changes to the organization. The biggest is that their partnership with the UFC is slightly more official, with Invicta events airing on UFC Fight Pass moving forward. The other notable change is that the Invicta strawweight division has been absolutely decimated due to ‘The Ultimate Fighter’ 20. The majority of that cast was plucked directly from Invicta, and that’s one reason a new strawweight champion will be crowned on Saturday, as Stephanie Eggink and Katja Kankaanpaa look to take home the vacant belt in the evening’s co-main event. The main event features ‘The Karate Hottie’ Michelle Waterson, who pulled off a big upset last April to capture the atomweight belt from Jessica Penne. Waterson has not competed in the 17 months since that bout, but returns to action against Yasuko Tamada on Saturday. Women’s MMA pioneers Tara LaRosa and Roxanne Modafferi will also be competing against each other on this card, while contenders like Ediane Gomes and Tonya Evinger are also present. MMA oddsmaker Nick Kalikas opened the betting lines for the top six bouts at Invicta FC 8 today at Several Bookmakers.
