A number of new UFC bouts were announced over the past 24 hours, and for today’s MMA Odds and Ends I’ll guide you through all of them. Daron Cruickshank vs. Anthony Njokuani, UFC Fight Night 54 The UFC announced a lightweight bout between strikers Daron Cruickshank and Anthony Njokuani will take place at UFC Fight Night 54, which is set to take place Oct. 4 at Scotiabank Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. This fight is most likely going to take place on the feet unless Cruickshank chooses to use his wrestling to take it to the ground. On the feet, both men are skilled but I do think Cruickshank has more knockout power, although I would argue Njokuani is more technical. It should be a fun fight but Cruickshank is the better fighter and I think he should be a small favorite heading into this one. Andre Fili vs. Felipe Arantes, UFC 179 The UFC booked three new fights for UFC 179, and the first is a featherweight bout between Andre Fili and Felipe Arantes. The event is set for Oct. 25 at Ginásio do Maracanãzinho. This should be a fun fight between two violent finishers at 145lbs. Both Fili and Arantes have had some great (and not-so-great) performances inside the Octagon so I think this will be fun either way. But I think based on the styles Fili should be favored heading into the match as he should be able to keep it standing and outstrike Arantes on the feet en route to victoy. Fabricio Camoes vs. Josh Shockley, UFC 179 A lightweight bout between Fabricio Camoes and Josh Shockley was added to UFC 179. The UFC is doing Camoes a favor here after they pulled apart his last matchup against Gray Maynard at the last second as Shockley is one of the worst fighters in the UFC by far. I never though I would say this, but Camoes should be a heavy favorite heading into this fight. Neil Magny vs. William Macario, UFC 179 As well, a welterweight bout between Neil Magny and William Macario was added to UFC 179. This should be a fantastic welterweight bout between two long strikers and definitely has the potential for ultra violence. Magny has looked tremendous in 2014, going 4-0 so far inside the Octagon, but Macario is young and improving and stylistically could give Magny problems. The line should be competitive but Magny deserves to be a slight favorite heading into it after his last few performances. Jared Rosholt vs. Oleksiy Oliynyk, UFC Fight Night 57 And finally, a heavyweight matchup between Jared Rosholt and Oleksiy Oliynyk was added to UFC Fight Night 57, which is set for Nov. 22 at Frank Erwin Center in Austin, Texas. Rosholt is one of the best wrestlers in the division but Oliynyk is a solid grappler in his own right and has a ton of experience in the fight game. This is a fight I could really see go either way but I feel like Oliynyk has slight stylistic advantages and could take it home. Still, I expect Rosholt to be a slight favorite heading into this fight in Texas.
