UFC 177 took place tonight at Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento, California, and while it wasn’t supposed to be a good card, at least not on paper, it ended up being more entertaining than most expected as it featured a number of quality finishes plus a few great back-and-forth fights. In total, all eight betting favorites won their fights based on the closing odds at Several Bookmakers. Here’s a quick recap for each fight. Betting Favorites That Won In the main event of the evening, TJ Dillashaw defeated Joe Soto via fifth-round TKO (head kick and punches). While Soto proved to be a worthy adversary for the champ, he just couldn’t handle Dillashaw’s volume and finally succumbed to it late in the fifth round. The champ cashed as a -1100 favorite (bet $1100 to win $100) while the challenger lost as a +900 underdog (bet $100 to win $900). In the co-main event, Tony Ferguson defeated Danny Castillo via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28). Castillo controlled Ferguson with his wrestling but “El Cucuy” showed great work off his back and earned a close win on the judges’ scorecards. Ferguson was -265 while Castillo was +245. In a women’s bantamweight bout, Bethe Correia defeated Shayna Baszler via second-round TKO (punches). After a close first round, Correia got into her groove in the second and absolutely destroyed Baszler on the feet en route to her best win in the UFC thus far. Correia was -145 while Baszler was +135. In a lightweight bout, Carlos Diego Ferreira defeated Ramsey Nijem via second-round TKO (punches). Ferreira found a way to Nijem’s chin and finally broke it in the second for his first knockout win in the UFC. He scored at -185 while Nijem lost at +170. In a lightweight matchup, Yancy Medeiros defeated Damon Jackson via second-round submission (reverse guillotine choke). Although Jackson was game, Medeiros was too slick for him and submitted him in the second with a beautiful choke. Medeiros cashed at -107 while Jackson lost at -103. In a middleweight bout, Derek Brunson defeated Lorenz Larkin via unanimous decision (30-27 x 3). Brunson used his wrestling to control Larkin on the mat and win a decision. Brunson was -160, Larkin +150. In a heavyweight bout, Anthony Hamilton defeated Ruan Potts via second-round TKO (punches). Hamilton got Potts in a dominant position and rained down punches on Potts’ body for eternity before the ref finally stopped it. Hamilton scored at -225 while Potts lost at +205. In the first fight of the night, Chris Wade defeated Chris Carrizosa via first-round submission (guillotine choke). Wade was able to use his superior grappling to control Carrisoza on the mat and earn the sub win. He cashed as a -150 fav while Carrizosa lost as a +140 dog.
