This Friday AXS TV brings combat sports to TV once again, but not in the form of Mixed Martial Arts. Lion Fight returns to the airwaves for their 17th card. The organization consistently puts on some of the best muay Thai fights in North America, and is only second to GLORY at this point amongst promotions focusing on striking. The legendary Malaipet fights for the 180th time in his professional career on this card, and looks to rebound from a recent two-fight losing streak in Lion Fight against Justin Greskiewicz. These two fought back in 2012 with Malaipet taking the majority decision, but Greskiewicz has admitted he was very intimidated heading into that bout fighting someone of Malaipet’s prestige. Cosmo Alexandre returned to kickboxing in 2013 after a couple years away from the sport pursuing his MMA career. He’s still competing in MMA, but has gotten a couple fights in with Lion Fight and looks as comfortable as ever in the ring. His opponent Jo Nattawut is making his Lion Fight debut, and has quite the task ahead of his with Alexandre. The final bout with odds is between Brett Hlavacek and Cyrus Washington in the light heavyweight division (which is 172lbs in Lion Fight), Washington is taking this fight on short notice, but has a great deal of experience in kickboxing and coming in late shouldn’t affect him too much. Oddsmaker Nick Kalikas opened betting lines for the top three bouts at Lion Fight 17 today at Several Bookmakers.
