MMAOddsBreaker’s Frank Trigg went on a special USO Tour overseas earlier this summer visiting soldiers and raising spirits with fellow MMA fighters and personalities Marcus Davis, Cole Escovedo, Tim Kennedy and Stitch Duran. Trigg brought along his trusty video camera along during the tour and managed to amass quite a bit of interesting footage. Here’s the first part of an extensive series which includes interviews and plenty of exclusive footage. We’ll kick off the series with the always outspoken Kennedy, who had plenty of very interesting things to say about upcoming title challenger Vitor Belfort among others. Kennedy is currently slated to take on top 10-ranked Yoel Romero at UFC 178 later this year.
Here are some highlights: On why he got into the military
“I think I was just like every red-blooded hot-spirited American sitting there watching planes fly into building and got pissed. It was a bit different for me because I had this glimpse into my life at that time about what I was doing. I was fighting professionally, I was in dot com commerce. I thought I was so cool and I was just a complete shit bag. I was a horrible person. I was worried about who I was gonna hook up with, what jeans I would wear. I was just a complete douche bag. I was that typical ‘I train UFC’ guy. This glimpse of watching people perish, I walked down to the recruiting office, knew I was a horrible person and wanted to do something right for once.”
On Vitor BelfortĀ
“I think Vitor [Belfort] is a very talented person that has been abusing performance enhancing drugs his entire career and I want to see what he’s like fighting fair. I know I’d beat him nine times out of 10 under those circumstances.”
