UFC Fight Night 46 Date: July 19, 2014 Arena: The O2 City: Dublin, Ireland UFC Fight Night 46 will be live from Dublin, Ireland today at 12:30pm ET on UFC Fight Pass with a four-fight main card to be headlined by a five-round featherweight contest between The Ultimate Fighter season 14 winner Diego Brandao and Ireland’s very own Conor McGregor. If interested in wagering on any fights or props for this fight card, you may do so at Several Bookmakerss. Here are my two live dogs for UFC Fight Night 46 in Dublin… Welterweight bout: Gunnar Nelson (-540) vs Zak Cummings (+460) Gabe’s Thoughts: I slightly favor Nelson to win this fight, but think the value is with Cummings. I think The Ultimate Fighter season 18 veteran has a good chance of upsetting Nelson in this match-up. He will physically be the largest opponent Nelson has yet to face and I think grinding Nelson out is a real possibility for him here. Cummings got the upset over Yan Cabral in his last bout, and Cabral was also a big favorite against him. I feel he may get another here. Nelson is one of my favorite fighters in all of mixed martial arts, but I have felt that he would eventually run into someone too big, which would make him decide to finally make the move down to 155 pounds, as he reportedly does not cut weight to make the welterweight limit. Cummings may not be the man that stops the Gunnar train, perhaps he would need to face a Mike Pyle or a Rory MacDonald before realizing he is undersized for the division. In fact, Nelson has said that he would like to fight MacDonald after this bout, but he may be reaching too high up the ladder. Gabe’s Call: Nelson by Split Decision (28-29, 29-28, 29-28) Gabe’s Recommended Play: Cummings (+460) 1.5u to win 6.9u Middleweight bout: Cathal Pendred (-155) vs Mike King (+145) Gabe’s Thoughts: This is a match-up pairing a couple of fighters who competed on season 19 of The Ultimate Fighter reality series, both of them coming short via decision against the eventual winner Eddie Gordon. Pendred is a natural welterweight fighting a natural middleweight in King, so he will be at a size disadvantage in this bout. I expect this to be a fairly competitive bout, with King getting the better of both the striking and grappling exchanges. Pendred has the hometown advantage going for him, and that may play a factor when the fight hits the judges’ scorecards. I think King will do enough to at least convincingly win two out of three rounds, but I feel like one judge will still give two rounds to Pendred. Despite being at a hometown disadvantage, I expect King to get the better of the Irishman in this match-up, likely en route to a victory on the judges’ scorecards. I think King should be the favorite in this match-up, so at the underdog price of +145, I’ll take him for a play. Gabe’s Call: King by Split Decision (28-29, 29-28, 29-28) Gabe’s Recommended Play: King (+145) 2.45u to win 3.55u
