MMA Oddsbreaker’s Frank Trigg speaks with World Series of Fighting 11 lightweight Nick Newell as he prepares for his main event title bout this Saturday (July 5, 2014) against Justin Gaethje at the Ocean Center in Daytona, Florida.
The talented lightweight understands the importance of this moment, and he feels the pressure will have zero affect on him come fight time:
“I hope [the pressure gets to him]. It would make my night easier (laughs). I’m very confident heading into this fight. The stakes are high. He has the advantage of having main-evented for World Series [of Fighting] before and he’s already the champion. One thing with me is I don’t actually feel that much pressure. I’ve come to terms with the fact that I could fight 500 times and could win 500 times, but as soon as I lose one, people are going to say I suck and I shouldn’t have ever fought and ‘I told you so.’ To me, it’s comical. I’ve proven everything I need to prove in this sport and I’ve proven my legitimacy as a world-class competitor. From here on out, I’m just proving stuff to myself and trying to achieve more and more.”
