MMA Oddsbreaker’s Frank Trigg speaks with UFC 174 welterweight Tyron Woodley as he prepares for his co-main event bout on Saturday night (June 14, 2014) against Rory MacDonald at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
The powerful welterweight has been finishing nearly all his opponents as of late, but he understands that he’ll have to utilize his entire game if he wants to defeat MacDonald in hostile territory:
“I’ve been working on my timing quite a bit, my striking and just incorporating a lot more wrestling and live wrestling into my training. When guys load up and show the hard punches they want to throw, I’m able to see that and get underneath them and take them down. I had a span of 5-6 fights where I didnt’ try to take anybody down. Carlos Condit was my first in the UFC. I wanted to not abandon my background and really bring my wrestling back out. Now it’s about using an equal balance of all. Using striking, wrestling, defense, using timing punches and also using power punches. Me putting those things together, great timing with a great camp, I think I’ll be the best in the world. It’s gonna be very hard to beat me when I move forward and I’m rolling on all cylinders.”
