MFC 40’s Sam Alvey: ‘I’ve been doubling down my efforts on wrestling’

MMA Oddsbreaker’s Frank Trigg speaks with MFC 40 middleweight Sam Alvey as he prepares for his main card title bout tonight (May 9, 2014) against Wes Swofford at the Shaw Convention Centre in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

The current MFC Middleweight Champion has some heavy hands, but he’s been putting the time in with his wrestling as well to ensure he’s a dual threat come fight time:

“Since my fight with Elvis, I’ve been doubling down my efforts in wrestling and just making myself willing to use it. I did wrestle in college but it turns out I hit really hard so I don’t have to use the wrestling all that much, but I’ve really been really paying attention to how to shoot a little faster, a little better. How to use the shot with my strikes. So I’m definitely not afraid to take him down. If I can get him nervous about the takedown, especially early in the fight, my chances of landing a big shot increase significantly.
