Titan FC 27’s Jorge Gurgel: ‘I won’t be a stepping stone for Mike Ricci’

MMA Oddsbreaker’s Frank Trigg speaks with Titan FC 27 lightweight Jorge Gurgel as he prepares for his main event bout tomorrow night (February 28, 2014) against Mike Ricci at Memorial Hall in Kansas City, Kansas.

The Cincinnati-native hasn’t fought for a year after taking some time off to focus on his gym. He knows why he’s in the main event and he’s hoping for a little anarchy tomorrow night:

“I’m gonna win this main event and then I’m gonna fight for a title and all that’s gonna do is add to my happiness. I’m happy already. I have zero to prove. Mike Ricci is in a completely different spectrum. He needs this. He needs to put me away. He needs to come and knock me out. The guy that bought Titan Fighting Championship, Jeff Aronson, I know their intentions. Of course they put Mike Ricci and I in the main event. They use me as a platform and a feather in his cap so Mike Ricci can look really good and get back to the UFC where he thinks he belongs. He’s the one with his back against the wall. He’s the one who needs to build a life for himself and his reputation with a win over me. I’m not fighting to prove anything to anyone. I never have. If Mike Ricci sees me as a stepping stone, he’s making a tremendous mistake”
