UFC 170’s Daniel Cormier: ‘I’ll beat Jon Jones’

MMA Oddsbreaker’s Frank Trigg speaks with UFC 170 light heavyweight Daniel Cormier as he prepares for his co-main event bout Saturday night (Feb. 22, 2014) against Pat Cummins at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. Editor’s note: This interview took place when Cormier was expecting to face Rashad Evans, but still provides plenty of unique insight into DC’s mindset as he prepares for his debut at 205 pounds.

The talented former Olympian realizes the importance of self-promotion, and he had some very strong words to potentially cement himself as a upcoming light heavyweight title challenger:

“People are very excited about an Alexander Gustafsson rematch, right? They are. Put me in there against Jon Jones, I’ll beat Jon Jones. So instead of promoting the guy that already lost to the champion, promote the champion trying to reclaim his title. It means more. I’ll beat him. So give me the opportunity to fight him if I get past [this fight] and then promote him trying to get his championship back. That’s more than just trying to promote against a guy who gave him a tough match.”
