MMA Oddsbreaker’s Frank Trigg speaks with UFC 169 lightweight Jamie Varner as he prepares for his main card bout Saturday night (Feb. 1, 2013) against Abel Trujillo at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
The former WEC lightweight champion took this fight on short notice, but has done his homework as he’s gearing up to take on the powerful Blackzilian.
“I see him being a fast, explosive striker. He’s pretty tough and most of his fights, he’s pretty much tried to stand up the whole time. He loves to throw knees on the feet or when the guys are on the ground… [Abel Trujillo] reminds me a lot of Melvin Guillard to be honest with you. I would say he’s a less technical striker, but he’s more powerful and explosive than Melvin.”
